THE LATIN QUARTER
The
Parisian Latin quarter is located just a stone throw of Notre
Dame, across the Seine. Mostly popular in the afternoon-night
hours, when it vibrates with climate and multi-cultural crowd.
Plenty of small streets and passages are giving the shape to this
place – where you can find bars and restaurants from all the
places of the world, offering a wide selection of prices for all
the pockets. Therefore we can find a Greek, Italian, Chinese or
Japanese restaurants together with Irish and French style pubs
together within a few hundred meters. Clearly, the Latin quarter
is one of the few places in Paris where a cheap snack is possible,
although – often a quality goes together with the price, so if
we are looking for some French haut cuisine, better look
elsewhere. In the Latin quarter most of restaurants offers a fast
food type, so that the tourists takes off with their meal, and
although the majority offers an acceptable quality, for the others
the attention to the client and to the hygiene is simply not
present. Fortunately, the last ones are in minority so there’s
no need to be afraid. A simple precaution: look not only in the
menu but also the plates on the tables before seating!
Latin
quarter is not only the restaurants – it can be
a pleasant place to take a walk, and where the absence of
French language would not be a disadvantage, since it’s the
crowded tourists who are creating the multi-cultural atmosphere.
So even if the waiter in the restaurant will no understand us, we
can communicate with him in a perfect "French by
gestures" language.
An essential visit is also possible, by taking an advantage of a
day visit to Notre Dame, that could be preceded with a stroll by
Beaubourg (district where lies the
modern Center of Pompidou Art), near the spectacular City council
of Paris (just follow the indications to "Hôtel de
Ville" to find it) and the esplanade of
Châtelet.
In the Latin quarter of Paris we can taste
the different specialties
from the five continents with reasonable prices
