ARC
DE TRIUMPHE AND THE CHAMPS ELISEES
Next
to the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triumphe is the most iconique monument
of Paris. Just standing in front of them is a blow minded feeling.
Arc
de Triumphe is located in the Place d’Etoile, which is meeting point for several important Paris
avenues, and among them the pearl of the city and well-known around
the world, The Champs Elisees.
It’s
always crowded and jam-packed with people! It’s the favourite place for the Parisian to buy,
to
go to the cinema or to take a snack
in one of its terrace always full of tourists. Here, you can find
the frequented Lido, a great number of cinemas, plenty of shopping
centres, restaurants and hotels.
It’s difficult to find a free place in a terrace, but if you
get lucky you will
be careful when placing an order. It’s better to have a look at the menu before sat down. The
beer prices are about 6€ (depending on which). So better think
twice especially
when you are with children.
In The Champs Elisees everything is about french touch and
delivering the pleasure to the visitors. Even few moments spend in
one of the car dealers packed with high-tech solutions as well as
prototypes of the first cars will give you thrills.
Discotheques and cinemas are opened till late in The Champs
Elisees and surrounding, so the place is bursting even long after
the dusk.
The
“Arc de Triumphe”
When you see the Arc de Triumphe in the photos
automatically start to compare it with the others arches of roman
origin. However, when approching to it, we can clearly see this
one is genuine. Its dimensions surpass or duplicate any others as
well in height as in width. Its grandeur makes it remarkable.
You can
expience it even stronger after climbing on top of it! The viewing
platform gives you oportunity to admire the most beautiful view of
Paris, despite of being much lower than the Eiffel Tower and The
Montparnasse Tour, the highest building of the city. What is more,
you can see how the avenues are forming the shape of a star what
gives the name to the place.
Apart
of it reveald before your eyes are! On one side The Champs
Elisees, on the oppsite side the Avenue de
la
Grand Armee
with the “Arc de
la Defense
” at the end of it. From the other side of viewing The
“Sacre Coeur” and, of course, The Eiffel Tower.
The
bad part of it is that you have to pay. You may find it excessive,
nevertheless why not to choose instead of always crowded Eiffel
Tower? View from the top of it covers a good part of Paris and you
avoid a few hours waiting for a ticket.

The
history of the arch begins in 1806, when the Emperor Napoleon
Bonaparte decided to build it in order to commemorate the
victories of his army. The arch is
50 m
high and
45 m
wide. The lower walls bears the engravings of the generals names
and the places where the french army has won over their enemies
all over Europe.
The
Unknown Soldier Tomb lies beneath the Arch since the end of the
First WW in 1918. It’s not so difficult to see the veterans of
the II WW who are coming to this place, wearing uniforms and
carrying flags, to pay their respect to the fallen brothers in
arms.
